Case Studies – Department of Social Services, Tuggeranong
The new home of the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services, at Tuggeranong Office Park in Greenway ACT was officially opened in September 2017. Designed by Nettleton Tribe and built by FDC Construction and Fitout, the 38000 sqm building has a capacity for 2500 staff and is a world class facility with a focus on connectivity and efficiency.
The development is aiming for a 5 Star Green Star rating and to assist in this goal a revolving door was required at the main lobby entrance to maintain a consistent air lock. A large Fullview Series revolving door, 3800mm diameter x 3500mm high was selected due to Record’s ability to custom design and manufacture the door canopy structure to support the dead load weight of the glass fins and frameless glazing above the door.
Working with the glazing contractor, Façade Innovations, the revolving door was custom designed and built with an integrated steel portal frame. Unlike typical installations, where the door is installed last, in this case the revolving door was installed first, with the frameless glazing subsequently installed around it.
To meet the high security requirements of a Federal Government project, the revolving door is fitted with mechanical key locking, endorsed by the Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC).
